Today’s beautiful guest is Jessica Bornman of Party Box Design. Such a sweet gal and loved her visit! In her words, ”I am the lady behind PBD. Party Box Design was launched in November of 2009 because I could not resist my desire to conquer the event design world any longer, one little cupcake at a time!
Just kidding, well kinda… honestly, planning parties, hosting events and party decor is a passion- a true love. Stationery however, brings me the MOST joy!
Beautiful card stock just sends me over the edge, patterns and bright colors… LOVE! This company is a dream that has become a reality, a place where you can shop and your purchase matters. We hope you love our products just as much as we do. ”
What is your business? Party Planning/Styling, Party Printables / Paperie, Crafter / Party Decor, Stationery
What three things/people have contributed most to your success? A driving desire to succeed, to be my own boss. The fear of failure. Of course my Hubs, he has been my biggest fan and gives me doses of reality with regards to budget. Sales are not your take home number… he keeps it “real”.
For a woman (or anyone starting their own business), what three things are most critical for them to be aware of? SEO, Budget and my gosh is this a hard biz to enter. Be original.
Why did you choose your career/business? I come from a family of creatives, and I think my biz chose me. I love paper, I love parties… I love color.
What is your biggest personal achievement to date? My biggest personal achievement… hmmm, supporting my family with Party Box Design while my Husband went back to school. Knowing that I could survive and succeed with the gift of creativity that God has given me.
If you knew then what you know now, what would you tell your 18-year-old self? Not to stress out so much, that God has a plan for us all. However my 30ish self is still saying that as I type this.
How do you define success? Well success has categories… success as a Mom, a biz owner, a Wife. However, success as a biz owner comes down to numbers. I love Party Box Design, but if I can’t pay the bills and net a profit, its not success… its a hobby.
What “rules” do you live by? Work hard, play hard. I love a good party, cocktails with friends… celebrating the life we live… enjoying living in the moment. That you either sink or swim, and this ship isnt sinking!
Where do you find your best inspiration? I am always inspired by color. The ocean air… it clears my head.
What has been the worst piece of advice you’ve been given? Gosh, I don’t really have anything. I don’t think any advice is bad, its all about perception. You might not like what you hear, but gosh it could still be great advice.
What is your secret indulgence? Reality TV… I am crazy obsessed. The housewives, anything on Bravo… oh my gosh Big Rich TX! LOL
Tell us one thing about you that we don’t know about that might surprise everyone? I am really a shy person. An introvert with extrovert tendencies. I actually get super nervous about the idea of meeting new people, talking to them. I see all my party ladies attending blog conferences and it scares me to death. I am horrible at networking.
Describe your style in 5 words: Creative, Obsessive, Loving, Sensitive, Bold
If you could have dinner with anyone, alive or deceased, who would it be and why? I would have dinner with my Grammy. Gosh we were close and I miss her beyond words.
